I have finally started the project I have dreamed about since I was 15 years old. I have poured hours of thought in to this and the funny thing is, now that its time to finish the project. I am having writers block so to speak. And need some suggestions from other jeep enthusiasts. So please tell me what you think.
I found a 1984 CJ7 with the inline-6. It's got a 4 speed transmission and does have AC. Hard top and full hard doors as well. The body of the jeep was in fair condition. It had a considerable amount of surface rust at first glance, but when we started grinding the rust was rampant. So we had no choice but to cut and replace all rusted areas. The frame is straight and is in good shape.
So far we have removed the front quarters, grill, tailgate, and hood. They have been repaired and primered and are now ready for paint. We cut out both sides of the rear quarters and replaced with new steel. We used a thicker gauge for this modification and it provided much more rigidity to the body. We are currently working on the floor pans in the jeep. Its fairly common for all CJ7's to have a considerable amount of rust in the floor. We are also using thicker gauged steel in the floor pans as well. The floors will be done by tomorrow. I plan to rhino line the floor instead of putting carpet back. This will prove to be more durable over time.
So its time to pick a paint color. I have been researching this for over a month and am still somewhat undecided. I guess in the end you really can't go wrong. I have it narrowed down to several colors. Sand Metallic, Deep Crimson Crystal Effect, and Sahara Tan. I saw a 2011 4 door tonight in the sahara tan color with a lift on black wheels. It was an eye catcher to say the least!!! Can you say Desert Storm...
